Happy International Women’s Day 2021!

I have SO many wonderful female friends in my life that I would be lost without. My school friends, my wonderful life friends and my creative/work friends and my mum! I also have 2 sisters who as the oldest, I am extremely proud of. All 3 of us grew up in Malahide; went to the same school and all taught art by a fantastic woman @thenoveltraveller encouraging us all the way to @ncad_dublin.

Our parents were both wonderful supporters of our creativity, telling us we could be anything we wanted and let nothing stand in our way. As a result both my sisters are simply world class at what they do and love.

@jenniferhickeyartist is an incredible ceramic artist working with porcelain, creating stunning work and exhibiting throughout the world. Her work is included in The National Museum of Ireland Collection and The State Art Collection of Ireland. Also in numerous national and international private collections. Jenny from as far back as I remember was drawn to ceramics, she was very focused and very sure of what she wanted to do with her talent.

@emer_the_steamer was less obvious, as the youngest she was quietly watching myself and @jenniferhickeyartist from the sidelines and learning from us and at times learning from our mistakes! She then announced she too was going to @ncad_dublin @emer_the_steamer has shown grit, determination, an enormous talent and an incredible work ethic like very few others I have ever met.

After @ncad_dublin off she went to London to study further and then work with Vivienne Westwood for 6 years ending up as Head of Couture for Vivienne Westwood in New York. She then moved to Thom Browne where she has been for the past 2.5 years working as Design Studio Director......she recently dressed Katy Perry for her performance at the Inauguration of President Biden.

Katy Perry sang Firework that night, a song that is basically about pride in one’s self, letting your true colours show - without worrying about what others may think of you. In other words be who you want to be and not what you think others want you to be (but always with kindness) My sisters are Fireworks 💥 if that’s the case!!
